The Preeminence of Christ

By Prophet Jacob R. Blandford

"And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence." (Colossians 1:18)

The world accepts the fact that a Jesus Christ or Jesus of Nazareth existed historically 2,000 years ago.  That’s not much of a debate.  That’s a historical fact corroborated not only by church teachings and Scripture but also by secular sources as well.  But this is the big question… "What think ye of Christ?" (Matt. 22:42)  Most people have absolutely no idea.  Other secular people will say he was a teacher, philosopher, or moralist.  But we Bible-believers have something else to say about him, he was either: “Lord, liar, or lunatic”!  And the reason we say that is because scripturally speaking he was not only man… but God Almighty Incarnate!  Let’s go back to his birth.  Joseph was not his father.  Joseph was his childhood guardian.  Mary conceived him by the Holy Ghost.  The Lord Jesus received his physical nature from Mary but he was not tainted with the Adamic sin nature like every other man.  He bypassed Adam’s sinful nature because his seed was the Holy Ghost.  This was a prophecy given around 742 B.C. to the prophet Isaiah that “a virgin shall conceive” (Is. 7:14).  We celebrate his miraculous birth every Christmas holiday!  But it gets deeper.  Christ was not only the Son of God conceived of the holy virgin.  He was (and is) the eternal Son of God.  From Micah 5:2 KJV (where the Lord’s birthplace in Bethlehem was predicted) we are told, Christ was “from of old, from everlasting”!  Wow!  That’s why Apostle Paul told us Christ created the world—right there in the Genesis creation account!  Paul speaks of Jesus Christ the Creator in Colossians 1:16-17, Ephesians 3:9, and Hebrews 1:2.  So this brings up the Trinity which we find only in the King James Version at 1 John 5:7.  Father, Son (the Word), and Holy Ghost (or Spirit).  They are equal yet specific persons.  Now just look at some of Christ’s claims about himself while he lived on earth.  Christ said he and his Father are One (John 10:30).  Christ said he that had seen him had seen the Father (John 14:9).  Christ said he was King David’s Lord. (Matt. 22:45)  Christ said he was greater than King Solomon. (Matt. 12:42)  Christ said he was Lord of the Sabbath. (Mark 2:28)  Christ said he was JEHOVAH “I AM” (John 8:58).  Was he lying?  Well, if he was lying there would have been no way he could have been raised from the grave after he was crucified!  But the angels proclaimed “HE IS RISEN”.  And he appeared to his disciples and over 500 brethren after his resurrection! (1 Cor. 15:5-8) And after he was raised from the dead he claimed omnipotence in Matthew 28:18 and Revelation 1:8.  Now it is important that you understand this Divine nature of Christ, because it took his pure and divine blood to atone for our sins (see Acts 20:28 KJV)!  If Christ’s blood had been blemished, he could not have atoned for us sinners.  But Apostle Peter tells us Jesus Christ was the sinless Lamb of God in 1 Peter 1:19, 2:22.  Apostle Paul also tells us about his sinless nature in Hebrews 4:15, 7:26, 9:14.  One of the strongest New Testament statements on Christ’s Divinity is given us by Apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 3:16 (KJV) where Paul flat out declares “God was manifest in the flesh”.  Not only that, Apostle John tells us that Jesus Christ is the Word of God.  And just like the Bible is both human and divine.  So was Christ.  His nature is made of the very essence and power that infuses the word of God; and the Lord said “Scripture cannot be broken.” (John 10:35)  Christ also had omnipresence or ubiquity as he alluded to in Matthew 18:20, 28:20 and John 3:13 (KJV).  Are you looking for wisdom and knowledge? The Holy Spirit said it is ALL hidden in Christ (Col. 2:3)!  Preeminence means superiority, and yes, the Lord Jesus is superior to all creation (spiritual and material) [see 1 Pet. 3:22] because he is the Most High God.  Jesus Christ also fulfills the role of High Priest after the mysterious Order of Melchisedec (see Genesis Ch. 14 & Hebrews Ch. 7).  These Scriptural truths are just a sample of what you can glean on Christology; many doctrines on Christ can be pulled from the Old Testament as well.  But this topic on Jesus Christ’s Deity and Preeminence is so important that you absolutely must have it if you are going to be saved and walk with God in your daily life.  Apostle John called it “the doctrine of Christ” (2 John 9).  And in 2 John, Saint John said those who walk in the doctrine of Christ are with God, but those who don’t, don’t belong to God.  Therefore, meditate on the divine nature of the Lord Jesus Christ: the True God & Eternal Life (1 John 5:20)—and believe on him—so you can possess eternal life.  In Jesus Christ’s Holy Divine name, Amen & Amen.
