Defraud not

By Prophet Jacob R. Blandford

Most Bible readers understand that when the rich young ruler asked Jesus how he could have eternal life, Jesus told him to keep the 10 Commandments.  But one of the precepts Jesus told him to do was “Defraud not” (Mark 10:19).  That is not one of the 10 Commandments.  That actually comes from another place in the Torah, specifically Leviticus 19:13 (KJV).  Therefore, if someone is going to earn salvation by the Law, they not only have to keep the 10 Commandments, but they are a debtor to the whole law (Deut. 27:26; Gal. 3:10, 5:3).  The young ruler was a lawful man, but Jesus pointed out he was covetous (10th Command) because he loved his possessions more than the will of God.  Also, he ONLY recognized Jesus as a Rabbi, not as the Divine Son of God.  He also needed mercy (cf. James 2:10).  And if he had followed Jesus for the rest of his ministry, he would have seen the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection… and then finally the development of the New Testament Gospel of the grace of God… Then he could have REALLY had eternal life.
